Chris Biffle, a college educator with 40 years teaching experience, is the author of seven books on critical thinking, reading and writing. I stumbled upon the Whole Brain Teaching videos on YouTube while I was looking for ideas for brain breaks about 6 years ago. The WBT methods have been a game changer for me. I love looking out on 25 energetic, excited, and engaged students while I am teaching using the methods. I've adapted many and made them my own. For those that think that this is a rigid way to teach, that is not so. You get to read, watch others in action online, and practice the techniques in the privacy of your own classroom as presented. Then, see what matches your own teaching style. From my own experience, WBT has made a huge impact on my teaching. I've gone from "sage on the stage" teaching to engaging students in short micro-lectures, having them practice paraphrasing what I've said, checking for understanding, then having students apply what they've learned. The thing that I've enjoyed the most is the classroom management parts. I'm free to teach and I'm not constantly managing behavior.After a few years of just using the management pieces, I began using the oral writing. WOW! I've never had such strong writing since I began teaching 21 years ago. The conventions of writing are taught using "brainies" ... These are gestures that go along with the rules of writing (capitalization, punctuation, end marks, quotation marks, apostrophes, indenting, etc.). The class practices orally first, then we write. As I'm walking around helping individuals, all I have to do when I see something missing is make the gesture with the accompanying sound and the student knows what to fix. It's brilliant!I have also incorporated several other "games" such as the Super Improver Wall (works on individual improvement in anything from behavior issues to academic success), the Super Speed Reading (works on sight words), Super Speed Grammar (works on grammar rules), Smoothy Bumper Planet (works on the 17 tricky numbers 1-100 ... esp. the teens), and Mind Soccer (a high energy review game).This book covers mainly the classroom management side of things. Once you realize how well your class can run using these methods, you will want more. For that, check out the new book: 122 Amazing Games and the website. There are endless resources out there for WBT and, other than the books, they are all FREE!!!

This is my second copy of the book because my student teacher ending up loving this approach so much she kept my original. This approach focuses on the positives and has worked amazingly in the primary grades I've taught. This is not a book just for working with challenging children. My students who are far from challenging love these techniques and are wonderful models for other students.

After 20 years of teaching, I have tried many systems. I had watched Whole Brain Teaching videos and thought they looked rather extreme. Then I read this book. If you need to know the theory behind systems before you try them, get this book. I started implementing the system in April and now my class is almost easy to manage. FYI- my school is high in FARMS and very diverse.

After 23 years of teaching, this book energized me! It was the first educational page turner that I have read in years. Marine Corp Tank Battles in the Middle East is a book I did not expect to be like. I would have thought by the title it would show battles being fought around the Middle East. This book surprised me a lot of information on tank unit’s deployment and each individual tank movement and issues that happened. I was particularly interested in the communication chatter and issues with equipment. Excellent book after the first few pages I could not put it down. Book has a few pictures and is easy to follow along with and understand.Very good read

Another excellent book in the history of Marine Corps Tanks.The author, Ed Gilbert,refers to it as the last volume in his series.Hang around another 5-10 yrs.,Mr.Gilbert ;,with the world situation volume 5 or 6 may be needed before to long.

This was a very good book about tank battles, especially if you like details. And it was very detailed about Gulf War I and Gulf War II. Very good description.

This is an extremely interesting document which records not only the record of Armoured operations in both Iraq & Afghanistan, but also the history leading up to the decisions to intervene in both countries.Oscar Gilbert provides a narrative which includes, armoured vehicle specifications, Marine Corp establishment details, geographical/country history & detailed combat events.Thank you Oscar, for your effort & dedication in both researching & recording these important aspects of Marine Corp history.

Well written history that is part of a multi-volume series beginning with WWII, then Korea and Vietnam. I recommend it - and I've read most of what is available on the subject.

I really enjoyed the book and think the author does a really good job in describing Marine tank combat. All the acronyms are difficult to remember because I am reading it electronically and cannot easily get back to the page (s) that explain them. It is a great picture of American excellence, initiative, ability to improvise in the face of ever-evolving combat situations. It gives me a great feeling of pride in our Marine combat capabilities. Gen, Kelly's quote is up a among there with Churchill and other great quotes. May God bless our military.

A slow read but we'll worth it of Marine Armoured battles in the Iraq and Afghanistan. Plenty of detail and personnel stories about what it was like and the equipment used.

An insight into the unique capabilities of tanks and other armoured vehicles. How these devastating vehicles are incorporated into the Marines battle forces is fascinating. Overall the book lacks some personal details but achieves the intended story well.

The materials are inspired by some of my favorite Moeller technique exponents: Jim Chapin, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Smith Dave Weckl, Jojo Mayer, Dom Famularo, Danny Gottlieb, Joe Morello among many others. I encourage the research and awareness of the artists mentioned here. About the Author
Dr. Kathryn W. Hegar, Professor of Management at Mountain View College, has taught courses in management since 1970. She is the recipient of many distinguished awards, including Collegiate Teacher of the Year, Post-Secondary Teacher of the Year, Minnie Stevens Piper Professorship Award nominee, and Innovator of the Year. She has authored 30 programs for IT'S EVERYBODY'S BUSINESS, the pioneering business telecourse that was used for more than 10 years by colleges across the country and in the military services. She initiated the development of self-paced courses in management at Mountain View College; piloted the first online course in organizational behavior for the Dallas County Community College District, which ultimately resulted in the District offering a degree online; and instructed management courses online, including organizational behavior, from distant locations. In addition she conducted workshops and training seminars in supervision and management for major companies. She has participated in and held offices in professional organizations at all levels and has served as the president of the United States Chapter of the International Society for Business Education, which meets in a different country each year.

I found this book online and was so excited to find a copy on Amazon. The two main female characters are actually distant family members, my great aunt and my great great aunt. I never knew either as they lived out of the USA. Thanks to this book, I was able to learn what strong and smart women my ancestors were !!

Philip Marsden invites his reader to accompany him on a set of journeys, deeply personal, unforgettably moving and incredibly uplifting. Marsden's writing is poetry, so light and inviting you are engrossed in the tale he reconstructs in an instant. The people in his story are real and so are the places, they just happen to have been the cauldron that was Eastern Europe during the years of two World Wars, revolution and collapse of empires. The social turmoil this gave rise to provides the dramatic backdrop to a book which is a tapestry of life, filled with hope, sorrow, striving, laughter and above all, love. In a short read, you will be transported beyond all the boundaries that seem to constrain our being - time, death and war - to share something magical from a forgotten corner of Europe's badlands.

The language is so poetic and fluent, it hurls you away, lightly and fluffily to a different era; a world long gone and forgotten. It has something of an East European Gone With The Wind theme, only much more concise and fleetingly. I longed for more pages, a hundred more, fivehundred more, in this novel too timid and subdued somehow. Perfect script for a fullblown-no-expenses -spared Hollywood film!

Pros...I learned a few tips I did not already know about drawing.It was short, quick and easy to read.The repeditivness in the examples made it easy not to forget the advice that was given.Cons...The book was short for the price paid.Most of the pages were just photographs with maybe a sentance or two describing what is in the picture.Some of the pages repeaded the same advice over and over and over and over and over and over and over which made the book even shorter.Most of the tips could be found on youtube for free, or by google or yahoo or anything that doesn't cost.Reasons for rating...I took away one star because the price alone.I took away a star because not only did the book repeat itself a lot, but there were a lot of common spelling errors, grammar mistakes, and tip advice that did not line up with other tip advice. This book was not well put together.I took away another star because it was a waste of my time that I can not get back and a waste of money.The reason I gave it one star because it did actually give me a few tips I took with me and will always use. (Not worth $9, but at least I got something from it.)I gave a star because the book was as it states it is. For anyone who knows nothing about drawing, this is a great starter book. Maybe invest in one that costs a bit more with a lot of knowledge to take in. But for those who need to be reminded of the same thing in the same way, but with a different example, then this is the book for you.Cut the price in half and I would add one star to my rating if that makes any difference.

This book is a good primer for beginners as well as refresher for experienced artists. Using a grid system, the author provides a good technique to complete a portrait from a reference such as a photo.

Clear and easy to follow, and the writing is engaging. The sample drawings in it are quite beautiful. A thoroughly enjoyable way to learn and/or enhance drawing skills!

I am a newcomer to drawing, and especially to attempting portraiture. This was helpful, although the grid approach did take a little work. That said, I am glad I brought this book.
